Stardew Valley: Linus
The Stardew Valley game isn’t your typical farming game. Although there is a lot of fun seeing all the interesting things you can grow in the Stardew Valley farms, there are many other fun things you can do in the game as well. You can search deep in the woods for interesting items and go on a forest adventure. Or you could be brave and go inside of mines and fight different kinds of monsters. Or maybe you might want to relax and do something peaceful, like head to the saloon for some relaxation time, or even go fishing. With this kind of game, you might get lonely. But have no fear. Stardew Valley allows you to play with friends and become friends with any other villager. And all you have to do to win friends, is give gifts.
Just like anyone else, villagers like getting gifts and you can give up to two gifts per week, unless its someone’s birthday, then you can give a Birthday present on top of the other two gifts. Gifts and birthday presents increase the effect on your friendship with that villager. Friendship points are earned by giving gifts, and you earn those points by giving the right kind of gifts. Give the right kind of gifts, and you earn friendship points, but if you give the wrong kinds of gifts, you can lose them. There are also gifts that cause a neutral reaction, and when this happens you neither earn or lose friendship points.
In this article, we’ll introduce one of the villagers – Linus. Linus is a villager who lives near the mines in a small tent. He looks like a grizzled old man that you would expect to see in the woods. He doesn’t really trust anyone, and he doesn’t seem to be friends with anyone, however, there is a rumor he is friends with the Wizard. Living close to the mines, Linus will sometimes mention that he has been down deep inside of the mines. It could be important to know this because if you happen to venture down inside of the mines, and should you run into some trouble, Linus will come and rescue you. Linus also gives out some quests. You’ll receive a letter from Linus on the 8th of Fall, he will say that he has lost an item that is important to him. There are other quests that he can give you as well that have some big rewards. You get a big 3X the items base value as a reward and 150 Friendship Points by completing certain quests.
Stardew Valley Gift Guide: Linus Edition
If you want to know what items to give him and what not to give him, then we prepared a small guide for you. It’s important to know what you shouldn’t give him to earn the most friendship points. He especially likes Blueberry Tarts and some other things from this gift category. These things all come from the ‘Universal Loves’ category.
The things that Linus likes can be found under the Universal Likes category such as Chanterelle mushrooms, Common Mushrooms, Dandelion, Hazelnut, Holly, Leeks, Morel, Purple Mushrooms, Snow yams, Winter Root, Wild Horseradish, and Spring Onion. These are all the best gifts to give Linus and will reward you with the most friendship points. Give him one of these and he will say; “This is a great gift. Thank you!”
But just as anyone else, Linus doesn’t like every gift you give him. Anything that comes from the Universal Neutrals won’t get him excited, and he doesn’t really care for anything from the Fish category except Carp and Snail. He dislikes anything from the Universal Dislikes category except Spring Onion and Fish, as well as all Foraged Minerals, and even Gems, with a little exception of the Diamond and the Prismatic Shard. And of course, he doesn’t want anything from the Universal hates category.
As with all characters in the game, when you reach a certain level of friendship hearts, you will get something from that villager. When you reach 3 heats with Linus, he will send you a recipe in the mail. If you have four hearts, enter the mountain area near his tent on a sunny or snowy day between 8 pm – 12 pm. You’ll end up hearing him apologize for not trusting you and teaching you how to make Wild Bait for use in fishing.
After reaching seven hearts, Linus will send you another recipe, and this time it’s how to make one of his favorite fish recipes, the Fish Taco.
Making a friendship with Linus is important and can really help you in certain parts of the game, especially if you go for an adventure inside of the mines. It’s also helpful to learn his recipes since you will probably need them in the game.
